about us

Carrot & Stick Press has been creating one-of-a-kind paper products which marry contemporary design with the old-fashioned process of letterpress printing for almost 16 years. Since our humble beginning in 2000--using a borrowed press in a drafty Berkeley barn, where our production was limited by the evening stirrings of a family of raccoons--our guiding principle has been: Anything worth doing is worth doing well (a quotation which is variously attributed to Lord Chesterfield, Charles Dickens and Hunter S. Thompson!). Today, all production is done on-site at our Oakland, California studio where we employ three antique presses to produce our distinctive paper collection as well as our bespoke invitations, announcements and stationery.

Founder Susie Gelbron received her BA in art history from Princeton University and earned an MFA from the California College of the Arts. She is a proud graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and was voted Most Likely to Succeed by her 8th grade class at Madison No. 1 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Carrot & Stick's work has been featured in many national publications including InStyle, Martha Stewart Living, The New York Times and Vogue. And on such beloved shows as Today, Sex and the City and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.
